4wd Northwest Vietnam Travel 6 DaysDETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau
(Meals: Lunch, Dinner)
7AM: You will be greeted with Vietnam Tours Expert team at your hotel in Hanoi. Then depart for Hoa Binh province and the town of Mai Chau. This scenic driving takes around three hours and a half. Along the way we pass fields of tapioca and sugar cane as well as rice paddy fields.
Arrive Mai Chau around noon, in time for lunch.
After lunch, you spend the afternoon walking through local Thai hamlets, rice fields. During the trek you will meet up with local Thai villagers, chatting with them will help you to understand more about their culture and traditions.
You arrive back in Mai Chau in the late afternoon. Check into a local stilt house for dinner.
After dinner, assist to the traditional music and dance show which is performed by The Thai young girls and boys. They all come from this village. Try also some rice alcohol made of traditional plants and local sticky rice.
Overnight in local house – Homestay.

Day 2: Mai Chau – Nghia Lo (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After breakfast,  you continue onto the national road 6 going uphill towards Moc Chau highlands. Some stops will be made en route for you to visit local hilltribe villages are located by the road. You will meet up there the H’mong and the Thai people.
Arriving in Moc Chau, you may want to make a stop for some coffee break before turning right, taking a smaller roads which runs along the Black River.
On arrival in Nghia Lo around mid/late afternoon, you will check into a local hotel. If time permitted, enjoy a short visit to a local Thai village where you meet up with local villagers, chat with them to understand more about their culture and traditions.
Overnight in local hotel/ guesthouse in Nghia Lo.

Day 3: Nghia Lo – Tu Le – Mu Cang Chai (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Today is the highlight of the trip since the drive takes you through the area where there are the most beautiful terraced rice fields in Vietnam.
After breakfast, we leave Nghia Lo for traveling towards Tu Le. You may leave the main road taking a small hiking trail that leads uphill to the Khau Pha mountain pass! The hike takes about two hours, offering you the opportunity to visit a local H’mong village is set among beautiful terraced rice fields.
Lunch is provided in a local restaurant in Tu Le.
After lunch, continue your road trip driving uphill the Khau Pha pass. Enjoy breathtaking landscapes of the two sides of the pass. Then gradually driving downhill to the famous Mu Cang Chai valley. Enjoy a short hike (about two hours) walking around the valley.
Upon your arrival in Mu Cang Chai, check into a local stilt house. Then if time permit enjoy a short walk to a Thai village is also located in the beautiful valley. Otherwise the short hike can be done on the following day before you leave Mu Cang Chai for Sapa.
Overnight in local hotel/ guesthouse in Mu Cang Chai.

Day 4: Mu Cang Chai – Than Uyen – Sapa (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch)
After breakfast, you can have time for a short visit of the Mu Cang Chai market is open right in the town before continue your road trip to Than Uyen.
Upon your arrival in Than Uyen, you turn right and keep driving uphill towards Sapa. The road trip takes about two hours as you travel along the west side of Hoang Lien Son mountain range which offers stunning scenery of the fabulous Muong Khoa valley. This is well known as the rice basket of Lai Chau province.
Enjoy a coffee break at Chu Va before driving over the Sapa Mountain pass. A stop is made when you arrive at Tram Ton, the “Heaven Gate”. Enjoy magnificent view of the Fansipan Mount, the highest one in Vietnam.
Arriving in Sapa town around mid/late afternoon, check in hotel for overnight.

Day 5: Visit Sapa remote hilltribe villages (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch)
Leaving Sapa at about 8.30AM by vehicle and traveling southwards to Sapa. The first 16km portion of the road offers spectacular landscapes of Hoang Lien mountain range, Fansipan peak as well as marvelous terraced rice fields of the Muong Hoa valley.
Enjoy several photo stops before arriving to Su Pan commune where customers will pay visiting to Hoa Su Pan, a small hamlet of the Black Hmong for half an hour.
Continue the 4wd trip along the road further south to Muong Bo valley of Thanh Phu commune. Walking along the large village path for nearly an hour, paying visiting to several homes of the Tay people who live in spacious houses built on stilts, witnessing their daily life and experiencing their hospitality. Lunch break in a local home.
Continue the trip in the afternoon with a short drive along the rocky road to My Son and spend half an hour to walk around this charming village of the Xa Pho ethnic whose population is only more than 6 thousands peoples for a brief understanding of their very unique culture and custom. Then process further for 10km to Nam Cang commune for visiting a beautiful and prosperous village of the Red Zao people in Nam Than village. This portion of the road ride offers beautiful scenery of the Nam Sai valley.
Leaving Nam Cang in mid afternoon and driving back along the same way to Sapa.
Overnight in your hotel in Sapa.

Day 6: Sapa – Visit Hilltribe market – Lao Cai – Overnight train back to Hanoi (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch)
After breakfast we will leave for a Hill Tribe Market for about 3 hours driving. Join in the colorful market of the tribal people in this region. On the fair market the H’mong, Dzao, Phu La people in their best traditional costumes go to the market for shopping and meeting friends and relatives…
Say goodbye to the colorful market and drive to Chay River where you will get on a boat for a river adventure. You are bound to feel great and find yourselves smaller among high Rock Mountains and to be surprised at white and breathtakingly waterfalls while cruising along the river. Get off the boat to visit a village of the Tay Minority (Trung Do village) by the river. After the boat trip, we drive back to Lao Cai and pay a short visit to the Vietnam-Chinese border gate.
You will have time for your own dinner at a local restaurant in the town before driving to the railways station for night train to Hanoi.
Note: Market tours are available on Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday.
Overnight on train in 4 soft berths cabin with A/C.
